Learn and Grow in the Vale of Leven

Alexandria My Learn and Grow

The River Leven is the spine of the green network running through Alexandria from Loch Lomond to the River Clyde estuary. It acts as a spine, with adjoining east/ west routes linking the corridor to the hills through our urban areas.

A number of important habitats – including Local Nature Conservation Sites – lie alongside the river, including grasslands at Ballantines and Dillichip, Dalquhurn Point and Fishers Wood. In addition to their biodiversity value, these serve to make large parts of the river corridor an attractive setting and location for recreation, despite the area’s industrial heritage.

There are several steep, wooded burns that run down through our urban corridors from the Pappert Hill and Murroch hill east and west towards the Leven. The River Leven is a migratory route for lamprey and Atlantic salmon.
